I’m back from Mexico!
I will blog about some of the interesting things I saw and experienced during my trip; especially since I was fortunate enough to stay at a very well appointed hotel by Karisma called The Azul Fives.
Although I was occupied with family and friends during my time, I got a crazy idea in my mind of something I would really like to try: I would like to try writing a book.
Particularly a book composed entirely of various love poems that I have written over the years.
This book served as my initial inspiration when I started writing a few years ago:
You can find it on amazon.ca- or indigo/ chapters. I highly recommend it. The style will haunt you, as Neruda expresses themes of love in ways that challenge the status quo.
One of my favourite lines in this book occurs when he describes wanting to devour his lover’s skin “like a whole almond”. There is an admittance of a cannibal nature within desire of one’s lover in this line. Something that I feel has been danced around but never fully expressed in modern day descriptions of romantic love. Loving someone can equate to a desire to emotionally devour them; in the poem, Neruda metaphorically describes this feeling as a physical action.
And so, since imitation is the greatest form of flattery, I would like to create my own book of poems inspired by Pablo Neruda, and based upon my own thoughts and feelings.
I hope you will check back on my progress soon.
Thanks for stopping by,
